Norway, Alesund - the Way of Trolls
2010-10-25 17:50
Some of the best-known Norway sight-seeing objects are the Way of Trolls and the Mountain of Trolls. You may visit them if you dedicated all weekend for this. Many people won't believe, other will be scared by the price, but actually all you need is a wish.
When one airlines company announced a sale, a round trip ticket to Alesund cost several hundred of litas for one person. You arrive at Alesund airport in the evening, a bus takes you to the city, you must withdraw your money in cash, because the bank cards at the bus are not accepted. We spend a night in the common lodging-house in Alesund, here we also rent a car - ten year old „Mitsubishi space wagon".
Early in the morning we pack our things and move to a journey. The beginning of the Way of Trolls is near Andalsnes. We drive on the road E136/E-39, following the signs to Tronheim. In the roundabout of Sjohold (about 55 km from Alesund) we will turn to Tronheim/Andalsnes (more 60 kilometres), our trip will take us about two hours. We drive further from Andalsnes on the road of E-136 to Dombas, 4,5 km turn to right with a circumscription Trollstigen, it means the famous Way of Trolls. Although the mileage is not big, we need to devote several hours for a driving through it.
From the first minutes of the lift the exciting views start to show up, inviting us to stop in the frequently found platforms. You will truly be forced to stop in front of the bridge to admire the beauty of the waterfall and the arched bridge. Above you will find a parking-lot, the shops of the souvenirs, a pathway to the platform, from where you will be able to see all the serpentine of the Way of Trolls. The subsequent way leads through the plateau to Valldal. Unbelievable, but the biggest impression for the children is skating on snow in August. By driving down you can stop at the ethnographical village to admire the stoned ferry-bridge over the stream from the mountains or you can walk in the picturesque valleys. Valldal is the kingdom of strawberries: people sell sweet redolent berries for the Norwegian prices in August all over the way.
From Valldal to Alesund are more 92 km - you may plan to reach it in 1,5 an hour. You can come back at about a lunch. If you have some friends in Alesund and they set fyke nets for the crabs an evening before, you may get to taste a wonderful crab meet (you can quickly grill them). You may also be so quick to get on the hill to admire the city and maybe even you will peacefully walk along the embankment of the city and eat a portion of ice-cream. You can also visit the museum of shipping.
In the evening you return the rented car, catch a bus in the centre of the city, which drives you to an airport. Late at night full of unforgettable impressions you will be at home. On Monday you will be back to work.
Almost the same period of time it would take to drive by car to the famous Geiranger.
