Trgoviste– Old Crafts Fair

“Trgoviste – Old Crafts Fair” is organized throughout the whole year at the entrance of Kalemgdan Park from Knez Mihailova Street.

Visitors of the Belgrade Fortress can see and buy hand-made artwork and those for everyday use made of textile, wood, clay, stone and glass at the very entrance of the Kalemegdan Park. The products are displayed on the cart of the PE “Belgrade Fortress”.

Old Crafts Courses

Courses on old crafts have been available to the citizens of Belgrade since 2009. All interested on taking up courses on old crafts in our Old Crafts Workshop can apply by filling in the form.

Old Crafts workshop and gallery

Old crafts workshop was opened in the Inner Stambol Gate in December 2008 as an intention to preserve and promote old crafts as well as to make cooperation of craftsmen.

Workshop is a place where craftsmen of almost forgotten crafts demonstrate their skills in carving wood, and in modelling clay, stone and glass. Craftsmen of different profiles work on pieces for everyday use, but also on those of artistic value, as well as on making tools and weapons.

By experiencing new contents and reviving old crafts, PE “Belgrade Fortress” wants to help people get clearer picture on how things used to be before and the possible potentials as well.

Since 2009 courses on old crafts have been available to the citizens of Belgrade.

All created pieces are exhibited in the Old Crafts Gallery, opened every day from 11 am to 7 pm in the summer, and from 10 am to 5 pm in the winter period.

Return to old games

As a part of its regular program, PE ‘Belgrade Fortress’ has organized Summer Playground for Children at the Upper Town of the Belgrade Fortress throughout July and August 2010, where children were able to learn about old and almost forgotten toys, as well as old games played in the past by their peers.

These items/toys, which our youngest citizens used to play with, were created in the Old Crafts Workshop opened by the PE`Belgrade Fortress` in the Inner Stambol Gate at the end of 2008. The toys were handmade by craftsmen who have been introducing their skills to the visitors of the Belgrade Fortress in the recent period.

Children played with rag balls and dolls, wooden horses and other toys used for playing in the old days. Staff trained for working with children created games and played with kids three times a week (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays).

Summer concerts - Bandstand

It was constructed according to th project of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Belgrade. It was ceremoniously unveiled on April 16th, 2004 as the Police Orchestra held an outoor concert.

During the summer, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, promenade concerts of classical, ethno and jazz music are organised.
