The collection of the Museum consists of sculptures and bas-reliefs of the Soviet era the "heroes". They are symbols of the cruelty and absurdity of the Soviet regime and show the manipulations performed with historical facts
In the 16th century, the Lower Castle was a luxurious residence of the Grand Dukes. However, the Castle burned many times and was restored again and again.
The Jewish Museum, as an institution caring for Jewish culture and traditions, has a long adition in Lithuania . The first Jewish museum was established in Vilnius (then Vilna) in 1913, through the efforts of the Society of Lovers of Jewish Antiquity. The activities of this society and museum were interrupted with the outbreak of the First World War.
The Bastion was designed at the beginning of the 17th century. During the war with Moscow in 1654-1667 it was badly destroyed.
The exposition familiarises with the railway history starting from 1860 up to today.
The history of the National Museum of Lithuania begins from the year 1855 - in that year the Vilnius. From the first day the Museum was representing culture and history of The Lithuanian Grand Duchy.
