Open-Air Museum of the Centre of Europe

Main catalog categories:

Europos Parkas, Open-Air Museum of the Centre of Europe, was founded in 1991 by Lithuanian sculptor Gintaras Karosas (b.1968).

The goal of the museum is to give an artistic significance to the geographic centre (as determined by the French National Geographic Institute in 1989) of the European continent and to present the best of Lithuanian and international modern art achievements. The exhibition spans an area of 55 hectares and is visited by over 60,000 people annually.

Europos Parkas, born in the year 1991 being one of the most important for Lithuania, by its name (the Park of Europe) and cosmopolitan ideas as if predicted the future of Lithuania and became the symbol of Lithuania`s transition from one state to another.

While enjoying the treasured landscape of the park, you will at the same time discover the admirable world of art.
The open-air museum exhibits over 100 works created by artists from 31 country of the world. The collection includes large scale works by famous contemporary artists such as Magdalena Abakanowicz, Sol LeWitt and Dennis Oppenheim among others. Acknowledged by Guinness World Records the world’s largest artwork of TV sets created by Karosas is also on exhibit.

The sculptures are permanently exhibited amidst beautiful rolling hills, woodlands and grasslands dotted with natural springs. The yellow blossoms of the grassland in the spring time and the faded colours of the misty autumn add an atmospheric backdrop to the sculptures. This harmonious whole with the light changing as the day progresses makes a lasting impression.

Europos Parkas is a meeting place for art and nature with an intense and international atmosphere. Companies and organizations may enjoy these beautiful settings for conferences, seminars, presentations, business meetings and social events. Conference Hall facing the beauty of the park can host up to 100 people.
Surrounded by an exquisite view there is a restaurant both inside and outside under the apple-trees, where lunch and dinner for tourists are organized.

The museum, a gift shop and unique post office is open for visitors throughout the year daily from 9 am to sunset.
