About Our Airport and Our Group

Successful airports - serving the whole community

The Manchester Airports Group (MAG) is the country's largest UK-owned airport operator. Our four airports - Manchester, East Midlands, Bournemouth and Humberside - currently serve a total of more than 23.9 million passengers every year.

We also run thriving businesses in property development and management, baggage handling, car parking, airport security, fire fighting, engineering, advertising and motor transport.

We support the UK Government's commitment to the principles of sustainable development in the aviation industry, striking a balance between economic, social and environmental considerations.

Regional airports. National impact.
We're more than just a regional success story. As the largest British-owned airport operator, we play a major role in UK aviation, contributing £3.2 billion to the UK economy and supporting over 130,000 jobs. According to independent analysis, our businesses could grow still further to generate £6.3 billion in value and support 260,000 jobs by 2015.

MAG is publicly owned by the ten local authorities of Greater Manchester and is privately managed on their behalf.

Our shareholders are:

The Council of the City of Manchester - 55%
The Borough Council of Bolton - 5%

Manchester Airport
Manchester Airport is the only global gateway to Northern England. Over 100 airlines offer direct flights to over 210 destinations worldwide, connecting over 22 million passengers to more places than any other airport in the UK. With around 19,000 people employed directly on-site, our growth is shared by our city and the whole region.

East Midlands Airport
East Midlands Airport is a true regional hub, connecting 4.5 million passengers to over 80 destinations in 2006 alone. As the UK's largest pure freight airport, it's a thriving base for DHL and UPS - and is the Royal Mail's main air hub. The airport supports more than 9,000 jobs in the East Midlands and generates around £231 million for the region.

Bournemouth Airport
Bournemouth Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the UK, annually serving around one million passengers and 65 destinations. Thomsonfly and Jet2.com both have significant operations at the airport which now employs 500 people and contributes more than £18 million to the local economy.

Humberside Airport
Humberside Airport welcomes around half a million passengers every year, generating around £16 million for the UK economy. Daily KLM shuttle services to Amsterdam Schiphol offer convenient connections to a worldwide network of scheduled long haul and European destinations. Hosting the UK's second-largest heliport, Humberside Airport also plays an important role in supporting the offshore oil and gas industries.
