Oskaras Korsunovas` Theatre
2006-11-13 16:32

Theatre lovers who often hear about Oskaras Koršunovas and his theatre (OKT) reaping laurels or provoking scandals in the stages of Lithuania and worldwide not always get to think that these numerous plays are achieved not having his own theatre stage. Why? Usually working in the reperoire theatre it is a bit difficult to realize fully the plans, dragging out and haggling takes a lot of time and creative strength, which could be used somewhere more efficiently. That's why, in 1998, the director O.Koršunovas, composer G.Sodeika and actor M.Budraitis announced the establishment of an independent theatre. It is a provoking theatre, which bravely uses the contemporary stage language to reveal the sore social and private problems, drastically trying to wake up the spectator from the drowse and thus shock him/her.

This season OKT offers the earlier evaluated and liked plays, e.g. "Fireface", "Shopping and Fucking", "Oedipus Rex", "Malysh (sweet kid)" and "The Master and Margarita". It will also offer you the premiere- “The Excellent and Lamentable Story of Romeo and Juliet” after William .Shakespeare.

This play in 2 acts (duration 3 hours) was first performed abroad: the premiere was on the 13th June in the "Hebbel" theatre of Berlin. O.Korsunovas depicted the tragic history of two lovers from Verona transfering the action from the aristocratic houses to nowaday...pizzerias. However, it's not worth doubting that italians will transform them into the battle fields, too. Can you imagine what kind of weapons it is possible to find in the kitchens? Tools for the kitchen use change their purpose- now they produce death ...

Two competing relative families are determined to gnaw through each other for the economic interests. Moreover, their children are not allowed to be friends. The tragic outcome is inevitable, but Romeo (Gytis Ivanauskas, Giedrius Savickas) and Juliet (Rasa Marazaitė, Rasa Samuolytė) will have time to live severly their life full of joy, sorrow, beauty and separation.

Director: – Oskaras Koršunovas, set designer – Jūratė Paulėkaitė, choreographer – Vesta Rasa Grabštaitė, composer – Antanas Jasenka, costume designer – Jolanta Rimkutė, light technician – Eugenijus Sabaliauskas. The performance is simultaneously translated into English. The premiere is performed in the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, as well as in Klaipeda, Panevezys and Kaunas (follow our repertoires).
